Coffee Filters
One of our customers sent this to me and I thought this was very appropriate for our “Budgeting Tips” section.
Coffee filters ..who knew! And you can buy 1,000 for almost nothing!
1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers
2. Clean windows and mirrors. Coffee filters are lint-free so they’ll leave windows sparkling…
3. Protect China – Separate your good dishes by putting a coffee filter between each dish…
4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.
5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust. 6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter. Continue Reading »

The Organized Kitchen
Kitchens have long been the central area of the house. They are used for food preparation, yes, but they are also gathering spots, communications centers, homework stations and in some cases, the home office. The kitchen is quite possibly the busiest and hardest working room of the house. This makes keeping it efficient, as well as presentable, a high priority. But that can be quite a challenge.
Having an organized kitchen is not difficult to obtain. It takes a bit of time and thought, but whether you’re making a gourmet meal for 12 or heating up last night’s leftovers, the end result is a relaxing, yet highly productive kitchen.
Kitchen Cabinets…
What is it with kitchen cabinets? Everything you need is either in the back of the deepest, darkest cabinet or too high for you to reach without climbing onto the countertop. The food storage cabinet is a jumbled mess of tops and bottoms. You never can find the spices you need and you don’t know what to make for dinner because you have no idea what you have in the house.
Create a sensible, organized place for everything! You will be able to easily find what you need and retrieve it without any hassle.
Clearing Countertops & Drawers:
Countertops and drawers quickly become collection centers – breeding grounds for clutter. Sometimes, the easiest way to get it all organized is to start over.
The biggest space hogs on countertops are small kitchen appliances. Mixers, toasters, fryers, blenders, they all get used once in a while. But in the meantime, you have no place to pour a bowl of cereal! Then, with all the hustle and bustle of food preparations, your kitchen drawers get jumbled up. But these things can be resolved!

Q&A: Convenient Kitchen Recycling Center
Question: Any suggestions for a way to keep recycling containers in a convenient place (so my family will actually use them) without having huge containers in my kitchen? It’s like having piles of garbage around until recycling day when everything goes away and then it starts all over again!
Answer: I feel your pain! When I started recycling it was hard enough to get the kids (and the husband) to actually DO it. Once that habit was finally established, the constant trips to the garage where the larger recycling bins were kept were a pain – although it was great exercise!
