Q&A: Home Downsizing Creates Storage Problems
Question: I have recently moved from a 2500 square condo to 1400 square feet apartment (2 bedrooms). I would like to divide one of the rooms for storage and self standing racks for hanging clothes. I am not allowed to nail anything to walls and I would like to do this as economically as possible. Any suggestions?
The problem is I have a lot of clothing and books and wouldn’t like to throw them all out. I am trying hard to reduce the amount of clothing and books – but at present two rooms are full of containers waiting for a place to be put….
I hope you can suggest some solutions.
Answer: Before I suggest anything, move all those containers into the extra bedroom. If this is going to be your storage room, it may as well start storing your stuff. Besides, you’ll be less stressed if the entire apartment didn’t look like it’s been turned upside-down.
Moving can make any space look like it is cramped and overflowing. Of course, as you have alluded to, the first step would be to go through all those clothes and books and ruthlessly discard whatever you can. Continue Reading »

Q&A: Traveling with Long, Fluffy Costumes
Question: I am looking for a way to pack long, very fluffy costumes – long dresses with a lot of slips and crinoline. We don’t want to have to do too much for the costumes to be ready and wearable. Can u help me?
Answer: What are you trying to pack your costumes in and how often will you need to access them? I suggest using a 2-Way Space Bag your crinoline. Since crinoline tends to be the fluffiest part of an outfit, it is probably the main culprit when packing.
Place the crinoline in the space bag, seal and vacuum the air out through the one-way valve or simply roll the air out. You can vacuum seal the bag at home and for your return trip, if no vacuum is available, you can simply roll the air out. You could also use a large zip-top storage bag instead of a Space Bag, however the seams and the seal will not be able to withstand the amount of pressure a Space Bag can offer.
This solution would also work for heavier weight fabrics or knits (like sweaters). Lighter weight fabrics will tend to wrinkle so I recommend you keep the outer part of your costume separate from the crinoline. Slips are so light-weight that compressing them would not do much good. Keep it out with the rest of your costume.
The light-weight pieces can simply be folded or rolled and placed in your travel bag.
Happy Organizing!

Day 8: Can’t Find Your Shoes?
On the 8th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me a Concord Overdoor Shoe Rack! I guess he got tired of hearing me complain that I’ve lost my shoes! If you have the same problem, check out this shoe organizer section! There are 15 new shoe organizers that have been added to Space Savers in the last 2 weeks. If you haven’t seen them, you should!
My personal favorite is the Concord Collection (good thing – ’cause that’s what I got!). The Concord shoe racks and organizers are made with a wood frame combined with chrome metal wire. The two materials create a solid, sophisticated shoe organizing solution. It’s a great alternative to the plastic or vinyl-coated wire options. The Concord Collection shoe racks also have chrome arch accents that really add a nice, modern touch.
